HYPHAE Logo Contest – Call for Artists

Hello, creative community of Western Mass!

In the spirit of HYPHAE: Community’s desire to connect and uplift BIPOC and 2SLGBTQIA+ artists and creatives, we’re crowdsourcing our official logo. Anyone is welcome to participate, and this would be a great match for illustrators, block print artists, or folks comfortable with digital design. Here’s more information and the timeline.

HOW THE CONTEST WORKS

STEP 1: Submit your portfolio to hyphaecommunity@gmail.com. In the subject line, please put: Portfolio for Logo Content. This can be anything from a portfolio site you maintain to a few images of your work that gives us a sense of your visual style.

STEP 2: Three artists will be selected to draft a mockup design and statement. Stipend: $50.

STEP 3: From the three submissions, HYPHAE and friends will select a finalist to complete a final design. Stipend: $100 and a free vendor spot at an upcoming market

MERCH ROYALTY BONUS: Because we believe in fair compensation, we are committing to a profit-sharing rate of 3-5% for HYPHAE merchandise to the finalist.

ABOUT OUR NAME
HYPHAE aims to support a vibrant maker community of BIPOC and 2SLGBTQIA+ creatives in Western Massachusetts, building connections between economic stability and more positive outcomes in interconnected economic and health disparities. In addition to functionally serving our maker community, this curation of opportunities, identity-based support, and experiences will foster a visible sense of belonging within the wider community.

What is HYPHAE?
Creating a complex network called mycelium, hyphae are the thread-like long branching tubular filaments that extend in various directions, absorbing nutrients and transporting them throughout the fungal body. Hyphae are the building blocks of the mycelium, much like individual roots make up a plant’s root system. HYPHAE illustrates our vision of a community-centered network that connects, nourishes, and supports this larger body of creative entrepreneurs. HYPHAE will co-brand with Yet Another Queer Pop-Up Market.

ADDITIONAL DESIGN NOTES
For the purposes of the logo contest, artists can use HYPHAE or HYPHAE: Community. We do request all caps for “HYPHAE” but are flexible on the word “Community.”

Size: the final artwork should be either high-res digital or easily made digital through scanning or photos. Jey will support artists as needed in the revisions stage, including digitizing work that may be physical media.

Shape and orientation: We are flexible to a horizontal/vertical rectangular design, square design, or something unique we haven’t considered yet. Keep legibility in mind and consider the application of the logo in communications, on merchandise, and on large banners/signs.
